Best Glycol Power Packs For Your Beer System

Glycol chiller power packs are essential for draft beer systems. Propylene Glycol is a cooling fluid used to keep beer at the perfectly chilled temperature in beer lines from the keg to your tap in small bars, large bars and restaurants across the country. In this post we are going to talk about and review some of the companies that produce glycol chillers and which is the best overall chiller to use on the market today. Enjoy!

What is The Purpose of a Glycol Chiller Power Pack?

The purpose of a glycol chiller is to keep beer at the right temperature in draft beer systems for customers and be easy to maintain. This unit works by circulating a propylene glycol, through insulated lines from the keg to a beer tower. It keeps your beer cold and thus maintains its quality. These can also be used for other products such as draft wine, kombucha, cider and seltzer. A glycol chiller is pivotal to a remote beer system, while maintaining the right carbonation levels.

There are many different types of glycol power pack units available on the market today, each with their own pros and cons. Some chillers having multiple pumps vs one pump.

Different sized glycol chillers for larger draft systems and smaller systems. How do you determine what size Glycol Chiller is needed? It will be determined by the amount of beer faucets on the beer tower, the run of the beer trunk line from the cooler to the beer tower and line diameter.

Some of the most popular brands include UBC, Perlick, and MicroMatic. Choosing the right power pack will depend on other factors, including your budget, where the unit will be housed, and how many bar stations will be used.

In my opinion I believe the Glycol cooling systems from Micromatic are superior to the other ones. The ones at UBC will work fine and if you are on a budget they might be the better the choice. Perlick is the most expensive and for the unit price I don't think they offer better quality. Overall Micromatic is the best in the game. I've installed plenty of these glycol chillers and hands down can say they are the best. The industry offers for a brewery, restaurant or taphouse. They are easy to maintain, carry an 18 month warranty, and the compressor is warrantied for 3 1/2 years. The Purchase price is a little higher but quality is great. They are also easy to install. Once the right power source is set up all you'll need to do is hook the pumps to the glycol lines, fill the bath with glycol and turn on the pump or pumps.
